College Park Church

Indianapolis area

With the compelling mission to ignite a passion to follow Jesus, the leadership team at College Park Church(CPC) faced the challenge of a facility that was too small, outdated, and had become a barrier for the ministry growth they were continuing to experience. Understanding it was never just about the building, they partnered with Aspen Group to begin the process of aligning leadership, culture, ministry and facility.

It was important that everything focused on fulfilling their mission by exalting Christ, experiencing community, and embracing a call. Their core values for approaching the ministry expansion project were built on the fundamentals of good stewardship, making a big church feel small, preserving their core DNA, maximizing their property, planning for future flexibility, and expanded influence in the community. The result was an addition which includes a new sanctuary, chapel, connection areas, youth, and multi-purpose meeting rooms.

New Sanctuary
The completion of the 84,000 sf. Ft. addition preserves the core DNA that defines College Park. As Pastor Mark Vroegop put it, “The Mission Expansion Project is really all a stewardship project to simply add more space to accomplish the critical mission God has given us.” Their new auditorium combines both theatre and stadium seating to provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere, making a big church feel small. The attention given to design elements allows College Park to have acoustical excellence whether they have a full orchestra, their choir, or a solo as part of their music ministry.

Space for Connection
Connecting has always been an important part of the College Park culture; however their facility simply didn’t have connection space. From any entrance of their new ministry space, one immediately experiences the open areas that naturally guide you through the facility. A coffee area, resource center, and areas with soft seating offer many places to experience community and become even more equipped to embrace a call to reach people for Christ.

New Chapel
Flexibility and maximizing the use of ministry space was an important value to College Park as they approached the ministry expansion project. Their Chapel and Adult Education space exemplify multi-purpose space. The 500-seat Chapel with its beautiful stained-glass window and warm stone accents offers a more traditional venue. An operable wall allows the church to best match the Chapel to the event, service or activity. A smaller multi-purpose space was also part of the addition which can be divided into three rooms for Adult Education or other activities.

Junior High Space
Formerly meeting in temporary buildings, the Junior High now has its own space that matches their large group/small group model of ministry. The large group space also serves as a gym and provides ample space and acoustical elements making it effective for a variety of activities. Surrounding the gym on both the first and second levels are break-out rooms where teaching, connecting, and equipping take place.

Storage
Another important, but often over-looked area, is storage. With the use of various multi-purpose spaces comes the need to balance that with the appropriate amount of storage for tables, chairs and other items that allow for increased flexibility in ministry spaces. The design of the addition included creative use of space(underneath the stadium seating) to have storage located efficiently near each multi-purpose space.

Coming Soon
The remodel of their 66,000 sq. ft. existing facility to increase and improve their children’s ministry, counseling and administrative areas will be done mid-2012.

College Park’s leadership understood this project was never just about a building. Embracing the need to align their vision and mission with their new ministry space, they partnered with Aspen Group. The results are their flourishing ministries now have effective spaces where they can to continue to grow and have an even greater Kingdom impact.
