Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church
Lockport, Illinois
Though it had been over ten years, Shiloh church in Lockport was determined to see their dreams become reality. With an aging facility that lacked adequate fellowship space, classrooms, and the versatility needed for its ministries, Shiloh knew it was time to begin plans for a new building. But their journey was not an easy one. Though they secured a spacious site that was both visible to the community and close to their current location, the church was soon faced with one challenge after another. From finances to multiple architects and builders to three phases of archaeological investigations after the discovery of historical artifacts on their site, Shiloh’s hopes were put on hold, one long year after another.
But this wasn’t a church that gave up easily. After partnering with Aspen, Shiloh and their new team worked their way tirelessly through each challenge, all the way to ground-breaking. And it was worth every step to see construction finally begin. Their new multi-purpose facility will be a breathtaking blend of traditional and modern that is tailor-made for their growing ministry needs.
A picturesque tree-lined drive will lead to the brick and block exterior of this beautiful structure, graced with an inviting covered entry. The colors will be light and the atmosphere open under the striking copper-colored metal roof and towering cross. The 19,000 square foot structure achieves the grandness of a church without losing the welcoming intimacy of a smaller space.
Inside, a lobby for greeting visitors will lead to a flexible multipurpose space. With the addition of classrooms and a fully-equipped commercial kitchen, the facility is designed to accommodate Shiloh’s various ministries as it promotes even more involvement with all ages from the community. Everything down to the baptistery, AV equipment, and projection screens are an ideal fit for Shiloh’s traditions, priorities and space.
As Pastor Richard D. House said, “To reach out we need this facility. This will enhance our work greatly.” And not only is the site enabling the church now, but it is positioning Shiloh for growth in the future. Plans for additional phases that will add to the new facility are already in place.
It’s as if the new building is bringing with it a breath of fresh air to the devoted Shiloh congregation. In the words of Pastor House, “This is an important time for our church. We have been hindered from doing ministry like we’re supposed to and finally we are doing something…It has been very energizing for us to see our church moving forward.”
