The Great Collaboration: The Missing Piece in Church Expansion

Multisite | church planting

Exponential, the world’s largest church planting conference, has been pushing churches to move beyond multisites and embrace multiplication as a church expansion plan.

This year, Exponential is releasing a new book titled, Together: The Great Collaboration, and “Together” is the theme of their annual conference in Orlando, as well as the regional events that will take place throughout the year in cities across America.

In Together, authors Dave Ferguson (lead pastor at Community Christian Church and cofounder of Exponential and NewThing Network) and Patrick O’Connell (global director for NewThing Network) identify the critical missing piece of multiplication, pointing us to Jesus’ prayer in John 17.

“It is the third “Great” command,” says O’Connell. “We are to Go (the Great Commission) in Love (the Great Commandment) Together (the Great Collaboration). It’s when we put all three together—and only when we obey all three—that we’ll realize the dream of the kingdom of God.”

“If the church of Jesus Christ could put all three of these pieces together—Go-Love-Together—we could realize the dream of the kingdom of God!” says Ferguson.

Ferguson and O’Connell use their collective experience and tell the stories of others to share how God is working through collaboration—specifically reproducing church networks—to create an infrastructure for kingdom movement. Together, they remind us, we can change the world.

Aspen has partnered with NewThing Network since 2016, equipping church planters with resources and guidance to multiply effectively. This year Aspen will present at Exponential on the topic, “3 Myths About Ministry Space that Keep Churches from Multiplying.” A free lunch will also be provided

Together holds the key to churches being able to accelerate the multiplication process.
