At my previous company, I had gained experience with design and project management in a large industrial environment but desired the chance to work closely with clients. Back in 1994, Aspen had a role that combined project management duties with upfront sales and business development responsibilities. That, combined with a compelling vision cast by Aspen CEO, Ed Bahler, about a place where people enjoy working together in an entrepreneurial environment, motivated me to make the move. Since then we have sharpened the vision to focus on building churches and it has been great fun watching people align behind that vision—and join Aspen because of it—and truly see their careers as ministry.
How I Spend My Free Time
I am blessed with a wonderful wife and best friend, Cindy, and love spending time with her. One of our favorite things to do with our four children (Greg, Ryan, Julie and Nelson) is take family vacations to national parks that involve a lot of hiking; we have wonderful memories from many such trips. Otherwise, my free time most often gets absorbed with reading—I love a wide variety of subjects including history, business, leadership, historical fiction and the occasional Clancy or Grisham novel. Last, but certainly not least, I love flying small airplanes!
The Most Rewarding Aspect of My Job
Seeing what a truly remarkable group of people who care passionately about the work and each other can accomplish with God’s blessing.
