MELISSA TSI-LING YAP

NCARB – Senior Architect

I was born and raised in Malaysia. After receiving my Master of Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota, I moved to Chicago and started my journey of designing and managing a wide variety of architectural projects, including commercial, residential, retail, office, industrial, pharmaceutical, and church facilities. I am passionate about creating building design solutions that synthesize economic, spiritual, and functional requirements with unique architectural design concepts and aesthetics that capture the vision and mission of
the client.

In helping my home church complete a building addition project, I experienced much joy in witnessing the various new functions and ministries that the new building addition supported and accommodated. This fueled my desire to serve God more directly with my creative gifts and architectural experience. In the winter of 2017, God opened the door for me to join Aspen Group. This allows me to play a more direct role in supporting and enriching the growth of Christian ministries in my professional career by being a part of a Christian church design/
build firm.

The Most Rewarding Aspect of My Job

The opportunity to use my God-given creativity and architecture experience to design effective ministry spaces for the growth of God’s Kingdom by collaborating with Aspen team members.

Outside of the Office

Spending time with family, friends, co-workers and neighbors, traveling and going on family vacations, exploring the diversity of cultures and cuisines, admiring the beauty of nature, going on walks with my dog, listening to music, playing the piano and meditating on the words of the Lord.
