General Superintendent

The General Superintendent is a culture-forward senior field operations leadership role responsible for providing strategic oversight, leadership, and consistency across multiple construction projects. We are seeking a leader who empowers our Superintendents to cultivate jobsite cultures that employees, trade partners, and church clients are proud to be part of.

This role serves as the bridge between field operations, project management, and executive leadership to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, profitably, and in alignment with company standards.

As a leader within a design/build organization, the General Superintendent plays a critical role in driving field excellence, mentoring Superintendents, supporting project planning efforts, identifying operational improvements, and ensuring exceptional client and trade partner experiences. The ideal candidate is a seasoned construction professional who combines technical expertise with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Field Operations Leadership

  • Provide direct leadership and oversight to Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and field staff across multiple projects.
  • Establish and maintain consistent field operations standards, processes, and expectations.
  • Conduct regular project site visits to evaluate safety, quality, schedule adherence, and leadership effectiveness.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Operations leadership to proactively identify and resolve project risks.
  • Assist project teams in developing recovery plans when schedule, quality, or budget challenges arise.
  • Ensure jobsites are properly staffed and supported throughout project execution.

Preconstruction Support and Trade Partner Relationship Development

  • Participate in preconstruction and project planning efforts on key projects or strategically assign field team members.
  • Provide constructability reviews and field expertise during design development.
  • Helps us build trade partner relationships for the benefit of the project, partners, and Aspen.
  • Helps us find and encourage/empower a guild of craftspeople who can efficiently and effectively craft spaces in accordance with the New Church Architecture.
  • Assist with logistics planning, site utilization, phasing plans, and risk assessment.
  • Support estimating and value engineering initiatives when needed.

Safety Leadership

  • Champion a culture of safety and accountability throughout the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Coordinate with outside safety consultant to ensure regular field audits and safety reviews are occurring and corrective action is taken when issues are identified.
  • Coach field leaders on hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and site-specific safety planning.

Scheduling & Production

  • Review project schedules and sequencing strategies to validate constructability and field execution plans.
  • Identify potential schedule impacts before they affect project milestones.
  • Collaborate with project teams to optimize manpower utilization and production rates.
  • Support pull-planning, milestone planning, and short-interval scheduling initiatives.

Quality Management

  • Establish expectations for workmanship and project quality across all jobsites.
  • Work with onsite Superintendents to ensure projects are built according to drawings, specifications, and design intent.
  • Partner with design and project teams to proactively resolve coordination issues.

Team Development

  • Mentor, train, and develop field personnel. Conduct regular performance coaching and developmental feedback conversations.
  • Identify training opportunities to improve technical and leadership competencies.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Operational Excellence

  • Identify opportunities to improve field productivity, communication, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in developing and implementing field best practices.
  • Support technology adoption and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Track and report key field performance metrics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of commercial construction experience with progressive field leadership responsibility.
  • 5+ years in a senior superintendent, lead superintendent, or general superintendent role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple concurrent projects and leading geographically dispersed field teams.
  • Extensive design/build experience preferred.
  • Proven track record delivering commercial projects ranging from $5M to $50M+, including those with complicated logistical plans and client-occupied spaces.
  • Strong knowledge of scheduling software, construction management platforms, and field technology.
  • OSHA 30 certification required.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Construction Management or Engineering or related field preferred. Equivalent experience is acceptable in lieu of degree.
  • Lean Construction, Pull Planning, or Last Planner System experience.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Design/build project delivery experience with churches, education, healthcare, institutional, or commercial projects.

Position can be based remotely in the US with preference given to locations near a major airport and in the Eastern half of the US, where most of our work is located.

Regular travel, estimated at approximately 75%, required to be in-person with Superintendents on jobsites.
